The Department of Psychiatry is committed to providing UH-JABSOM medical students with psychiatric education of the highest quality. We participate in medical student education at all levels, including: the basic problem-based learning units (during the first and second years), the clinical skills preceptorships (notably, the "brain and behavior" subunit), the third-year clerkship, and fourth-year electives.

In addition, we participate in the JABSOM Psychiatry Student Interest Group (JPSIG) and in career advising for medical students. We are committed to enhancing students' learning of the biological, behavioral, populational, and clinical aspects of medicine; as we believe that embracing this comprehensive approach can lead to the best care for patients. We take pride in the fact that, among our graduating students, our recruitment rate into the specialty of psychiatry is around twice the national average (of 3 to 4%).
