| January 2003 Happy New Year, Tourism in Hawaii |
| Reminder: The Deadline for Abstract Submission is March 15 Planning for the 17th World Congress on Psychosomatic Medicine is proceeding very well. Abstracts are being submitted and are being judged by the International Advisory Panel. Exciting symposia are being prepared. There will be a key piece on their risks versus benefits of opioid it's for chronic pain, and on the clinical applications of alexithymia. A special session of the theoretical foundations of Psychosomatics Medicine is being planned. A panel discussion on the issue of assisted suicide will feature expert researchers and analysts. An outstanding series of plenary lectures are listed on our website http://hawaiiresidency.org/icpm2003 Tourism is rapidly recovering in Hawaii, following the sharp declines after September 11. It now apears that the hotel prices, negotiated a couple of years ago, are an excellent deal, particularly at the conference hotel, Hilton Waikoloa Village. I have been contacted by many participants in the Congress, stating that they have been there before, and it is their favorite hotel in the world. It is a unique resort, having won awards rating it among the top family hotels and also among the top Romantic hotels. I strongly recommend accepting this special opportunity to stay at this hotel. Remember, it is even more of a bargain, because a free luau ticket will be included for those staying at the hotel four nights or more. Touring Hint: about a 20 minute walk from the Congress venue is the largest natural site of ancient petroglyph rock carvings in Hawaii. This is completely uncommercialized and quite striking to be seen. Be sure to take your camera. Less than 8 months until the Congress. Be prepared for the time of your life.
