Aloha!
The Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Fellowship Training Program, under the sponsorship of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, is a newly ACGME accredited Fellowship program which will welcome its first two fellows in July 2010.
The Program is organized to provide training and supervised experience of 3 years duration, comprised of 2 Fellows per year, for a total of 6 Fellows for all years of the Program. All Fellows will be based at a single participating site, The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC). This will be the only site providing structured clinical experiences.
The Queen’s Medical Center is the largest tertiary care medical center in the State of Hawaii and the Pacific Basin. Patients evaluated and managed at the QMC are of diverse ethnicities, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Patients treated by the Fellows have a variety of acute and chronic cardiovascular disease processes. Moreover, CVD Fellows will care for individuals of both genders who span the continuum from late adolescence through the geriatric age group. An equal number of male and female patients are expected. Hence, the variety of patients the Fellow will care for covers the breadth of cardiovascular conditions encountered in the acute hospital setting and in ambulatory centers, and ranges from common medical conditions to those encountered only in a tertiary care center.
The Queen’s Medical Center offers the full spectrum of diagnostic cardiovascular testing and therapeutic interventions including: non-invasive cardiac evaluations (exercise stress testing, ambulatory ECG monitoring, echocardiography and Doppler, nuclear cardiology, positron emission tomography imaging services, cardiac computerized tomography scanning and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging capacities); cardiac catheterization; percutaneous coronary interventions; electrophysiology; and an active cardiac surgery program.)
